Award

Eastern PA Water Pollution Control Operators Association Award

The City of Reading and Berks Community Television received a joint award from the Eastern PA Water Pollution Control Operators Association (EPWPCOA) on November 9, 2007.  The George L. Parks Memorial Public Education Award is awarded “for significant accomplishments in promoting awareness and understanding of water environment issues among the general public.”  The BCTV monthly production of the Public Works Show featured Charlie Jones discussing the wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) with Ralph Johnson, Russ Stoudt, and Deb Hoag last December.  The discussion included the City’s receipt of the 2006 Plant Operation and Maintenance Excellence Award from the EPWPCOA and the improvements that have been made over the past several years as well as basic information related to wastewater treatment as a whole.  Also, Russ Stoudt was there to discuss maintenance improvements and the Daniel H. “Dan” Treat Memorial Award.  This was previously known as the Operator of the Year award and is awarded to a facility manager, superintendent, foreman or shift supervisor for sharing wastewater knowledge with others.  An EPWPCOA board member saw the BCTV show with people he knew while visiting relatives.  He was impressed by the publicity and public education about the industry as a whole and nominated the City and BCTV to receive the award.  Please feel free to use this information in your report to Council.

We would like to thank all those involved at BCTV for making this possible and for being co-recipients of the award. We should all be proud to have an organization like BCTV providing the community service and education for Reading and Berks County residents.  Without them, so much information would never be known to the general public.
