City Of Reading Announces DEP Recycling Grant Award

December 5, 2007:  Frank Denbowski, Solid Waste Coordinator of the City of Reading, Pennsylvania announced today that the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection has approved the City of Reading’s recycling performance grant application for the year 2005 and will award the City $149,233.00. 

The recycling performance grant rewards communities based on the amount of recyclable materials collected.  The City of Reading residential recycling service is paid for by the residents through a user fee.  “The performance grants program allows cities like Reading to fund programs that they may not otherwise be able to afford,” stated Denbowski.  “The City uses the performance grant funding for educational mailings, youth education programs, neighborhood clean ups and resources to combat illegal dumping,” he added.
