City Announces Sewer Leak Repairs Under Way

January 11, 2008: Mayor Thomas McMahon, Mayor of the City of Reading, Pennsylvania, and Charles Jones, Public Works Director, City of Reading, Pennsylvania, are issuing the following statement:

At approximately 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 10, 2008, a sewer force main leak was reported by a citizen and verified by City of Reading Public Works personnel in the area of Brentwood Industries along the Schuylkill River.  Public Works crew members have been working around the clock and repairs to the line have begun.  Temporary repairs are expected to be completed today and final repairs are expected to be completed in two weeks.

The Public Works Department is requesting that all businesses and residents on the east side of Reading conserve water consumption to decrease the flow volume in the sanitary sewer system until repairs have been completed.

“This points up the need once again to make improvements to our aging infrastructure to continue to provide quality services,” stated McMahon.
